MBAA International–An InternationalConference!MBAA International is more than a well-known name,it’s a compelling description! All 50 states and morethan 25 countries are regularly represented among ourattendees.High quality leaders have been coming together atMBAA International for more than 47 years!MBAA International is more than a good conference,it’s a good conference with almost a half-century oftradition and success! No other “multidisciplinary” business conference hasbeen doing what MBAA International does for as long orwith as much geographic diversity. We are proud of our “reach” and our reputation! MBAA International:Origins and OutcomesIt’s no accident that MBAA International is a high-value, enduring, andendearing multidisciplinary conference. Almost a half decade ago (1964)Schuyler F. Otteson and L. L. Waters of Indiana University and CharlesSaunders and Sidney P. Feldman of the University of Kansas gathered “onthe occasion of the American Economic Association meeting,” and plantedthese very seeds in their preparation for our inaugural meeting in 1965.Nearly 50 years later, MBAA International is still going strong. We’ve builton the innovative, interdisciplinary vision of these great leaders to becomeAMERICA’S BEST CONFERENCE VALUE!The MBAA INTERNATIONAL experience is the warm feeling of the familiarand the excitement of the new. The MBAA INTERNATIONAL experience iscollegiality and fellowship, renewing friendships and making new ones. TheMBAA INTERNATIONAL experience is initiating and continuing dialoguesabout teaching and research. The MBAA INTERNATIONAL experience isthe rich mixture of attendees from colleges—large and small, public andprivate—governmental agencies, non-profit institutions, and the businesscommunity. The MBAA INTERNATIONAL experience is Chicago—anincredible city with entertaining events, great food, and around-the-clockaction.MBAA INTERNATIONAL has become successful beyond even the greatdreams of our founders. They established a culture of coordination andcooperation that still thrives. While some other organizations have adoptedour “multidisciplinary experience” approach, MBAA INTERNATIONALremains America’s long-term leader in low-cost, high-value integrative professional development. Nobody has been doing it longer and many believe, nobody does it better! In 2011, eleven formal organizations make up MBAA INTERNATIONAL:Academy of Business Economics, Academy of Finance, Academy ofInternational Business Midwest, Business and Health Administration Association, Marketing Management Association, Midwest Academy of LegalStudies in Business, North American Accounting Society, North AmericanManagement Society, Operations Management and EntrepreneurshipAssociation, Society for Case Research, and the Society for the Advancement of Information Systems. We also have a track focusing on Business,Society, and Government.8
The leaders of the formal organizations are listed near the back of this program, as are members of the MBAA INTERNATIONAL Advisory Council,Past-Presidents, Past-Executive Directors, and the Executive Board.Primary registrations for the various MBAA INTERNATIONAL organizationsat the 2007–2010 annual meetings were:2007200820092010Accounting .79Business, Society, and Government.27Case Research .39Economics .43Finance . 116Health Administration.73Information Systems .33International Business .82Legal Studies .50Management. 113Marketing .128Operations Management andEntrepreneurship .35MBAA International 712056431145436525993155341028153014Total .834746730797These registrations tell only part of the story as some participants supportmore than one organization through one or more secondary registrations. In 2007, there were 135 secondary registrants; in 2008, 117; in 2009, 118;and in 2010, 137.Useful programming, collegial networking, and magnificent entertainment—all in a great city—and all at an incredibly low cost—make MBAA INTERNATIONAL AMERICA’S BEST CONFERENCE VALUE!9
